South Sidney Rabbitohs Lock and Captain, Sam Burgess has been found not guilty on charges of a shoulder charge against Canterbury Bulldogs’ Greg Eastwood last Friday.
Coach Michael Maguire is one happy coach as his star player escaped a two-week ban that would have been costly if the verdict came out otherwise.
In the match that ended in a 24 – 9 loss for the Rabbitohs, the herd leader, Burgess was also red flagged.
He was charged with a grade-one shoulder charge which was argued by Burgess’ defense last night with evidence showing that Burgess only braced for contact. He was penalized for that in the eight-minute hit.
The defence also argued that prosecution’s main evidence, from one of the nine cameras used was misleading due to the optical illusion it created.
A pleased Coach Maguire said it’s good that Burgess will be around as the team prepares to take on Brisbane Broncos on Friday.
Currently 11th on the point’s ladder, they can’t afford to lose a key player, even for a week or two.
