Brothers 7s Tournament

It was a thrilling showdown between the much-fancied Defence outfit against the University Piggies in the Brothers 40th Anniversary 7s Invitational Tournament.

 The Women’s division went true to form as they got the crowd into dancing mode.

The Bava Rugby Union grounds blossomed with the short format of the Union action.

Sixteen men’s teams including  Goroka Siverbacks, Morobe Hammerheads,  Black Orchids from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Daru Stingrays and  Kimbe Rebels. 

In the Women division, 6 teams are locked in including the host club, the Sisters.

Defence in green and gold took on University Piggies in the pool D division.

Both Teams were in-form and gritty to stage a ‘battle of the titans’

Under the coaching of Sydney Wesley, Piggies ‘loaded for bear’ while the boys in green and gold ‘have to stay hungry’.

Both teams went back to back, registering 7 points apiece in the opener.

Defence continued its good performance, bringing the score line to 12 and setting the pressure on Piggies.

Defence were on the same wavelength, adding two tries to their basket while  Piggies need to turn up the intensity and it did only to come home with a try.

Defence bagged a try to conclude the game at 33 points to 12.

The match that kept the crowd entertaining was between Sisters and Defence in green and gold.

Sisters under the mentorship and coaching of Docas Pilokos have to rise to the occasion’.

Defence Stayed focus and ready to hunt down the Brothers’ sisters.

Eventually it was the sisters who broke the Defence and walked out winners at 26 points to 10.

Big guns in both Rugby Union and Rugby League were on Siverbacks team, including Nigel Hukula, former PNG Pukpuks Richard Mark and Paul Joseph. The Finals will be played tomorrow.
