BOOST FOR RURAL SPORTS

In a significant move to promote rural sports and foster community unity, Nuga Dick has stepped forward to support the youth of Hula Village through a generous donation of sporting equipment.

Dick presented two volleyball nets, two volleyballs, two whistles, and a box of biros to the newly established Alewai Clan Volleyball Association. The donation is aimed at equipping the association with the necessary tools to launch its inaugural competition and provide a structured platform for sporting engagement.

The formation of the Alewai Clan Volleyball Association is more than just a sporting initiative; it is also a strategic community effort. Clan members said that by hosting competitions within their own clan area, they aim to keep local youth actively and productively engaged.

“The goal is to keep our youths busy through sports,” a clan representative said. “By giving them a positive outlet for their energy, we can help prevent unnecessary law and order issues and build a stronger and safer community for everyone.”

The initiative began when Alewai Clan members, who are cousins of Dick, reached out to him for assistance in establishing their own independent volleyball competition.

Beyond the donation of equipment, Dick has also taken on a mentorship role, guiding the association on the technical aspects of establishing and managing a sports body.

His guidance includes advice on competition management, as well as the implementation of official rules and regulations to ensure the games are organised professionally and fairly.

While the Alewai Clan has a long and proud history of excellence in soccer and rugby, volleyball has historically taken a backseat. Mr. Dick said the gesture was intended to help his cousins diversify their sporting interests and develop a passion for volleyball.

“This was a gesture to help my cousins run their competition properly,” Nuga said.

He added that the Alewai Clan are well known for their achievements in soccer and rugby, which are their favourite sports.

“This is a chance to see them apply that same passion to volleyball and help grow the sport in our rural areas,” he said.

The Alewai Clan Volleyball Association is now set to begin its journey, marking a new chapter for sports development in Hula Village.
