The Hebou PNG Barramundis have departed for the United Arab Emirates today.
They will be touring the UAE for two weeks, for their Inter-continental Cup and World Cricket League Championship fixtures.
Skipper, Assad Vala, is optimistic of their chances in the WCLC 2-year competition as they are currently in the top three, on the ladder.
After concluding 2016 with a fourth placing in the Inter-Continental Cup, and second in the World Cricket League Championship, the Barras are hoping to finish off in the WCLC with the top placing.
The two-year competition which started last year, saw them battling their way through with some tough opponents such as Kenya, Namibia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Now going for the WCLC Round 5, United Arab Emirates will present teams that will definitely test the Barras abilities in the next two weeks, giving the UAE teams a run for their money.
With his recent stint in the DTC Hong Kong T20 Blits where he played alongside some cricket big names like Brian Lara, Kumar Sangakarra, Jesse Ryder, Misbah Ul-Haq and Saeed Ajmal, Vala is already looking forward to imparting what he learnt from them, to the national team.
As the Captain and PNG’s leading batsman, he is in a better position to do exactly that.
