Balob Principal: Online Selection Process Slowing down Registration

By Martha Louis – EMTV News, Madang

Lae’s Balob Teachers College is still waiting to get the list of non-school leavers accepted for this academic year.

Principal, Jerry Hendingao, says the new online selection process has led to the slow registration of students at the school. This is the first time the college faced this problem and hopes the Education Department can help sort this out soon.

Balob Teachers College enrolls at least 2000 students, but for this year 2019 the school is yet to get the list of names of students on HECAS. According to the principal, registration of new students was delayed and is very slow as they are yet to get the list of non-school leavers.

Mr Hendingao says the new online and vetting system that was put in place is making it more difficult for the college, compared to the last 2 years where non-school leavers would have to fill in the application forms before it is screened and then students can sit for entry test.

The college had sent its quota to the Education Department. However, to date, they are yet to get the list of HECAS students.
