Dr Allan Bollard, the Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat said Papua New Guinea (PNG) looks ready to host the 2018 summit of the Asia Pacific Economic Corporation.
Speaking at the APEC Transport Ministers meeting in Port Moresby, he said that to be APEC ready all infrastructure to cater for an expected 10,000 guests must be ready.
He added that hosting begins in December with several 100 meetings at selected venues around the country leading up to the Leaders’ Summit in November 2018 in Port Moresby.
The 10th APEC Transport Ministers Meeting was successfully held in Port Moresby on Saturday and the Executive Director of the APEC secretariat explained what is expected in December.
He added that for PNG to be APEC-ready all infrastructure to host the APEC meeting should be ready but is satisfied PNG is ready to host.
During the APEC meeting PNG is expected to have 21 Heads of Economies with their delegates and all CEOs of major global companies. Security will be high and Dr Bollard said it is a key part of preparation for APEC.
The 10th APEC Leaders’ summit will be held next year in Port Moresby with several 100 other meeting taking places in other hosting APEC provinces.
