APEC Business Advisory Council Promotes Open Markets

By Leanne Jorari – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Faced with increased protectionism and digital disruption in global trade, APEC member economies and the Asia-Pacific business community are preparing bold actions to equip the world’s growth engine for change.

The regions public and private sectors convened in Tokyo last month for the 2nd APEC Business Advisory Council meeting, where they discussed opening markets up and inclusive growth.

Yesterday (May 23) morning, ABAC Chair; David Toua, briefed the delegates at the second Senior Official Meeting about the outcomes of said meeting. He stated that the ABAC’s focus is truly inclusive growth for the regions communities and steps to include this include reducing barriers to trade and investment.

The APEC Business Advisory Council will present policy recommendations for advancing these goals at the Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting on Friday.
