Another Lae Fire Destroys Company Building

A warehouse belonging to a packaging company, Color pack, was razed by fire early yesterday morning.

The Fire began at its recycling room and spread to other parts of the building.

Factory Manager, Rajas Desai says about three months of products, worth about a million kina, has been lost.

The fire started around two in the morning. More then a million kina worth of products have been destroyed after two buildings burnt down.

According to witnesses, Fire fighters arrived late at the scene; the building was in debris by 8 a.m.

An obviously distressed Factory Manager, Rajas Desai, was called to the scene, and he wanted explanations from the firefighters.

Factory Manager Rajas Desai says the company will recover, but client’s orders may delay for at least three months.

Earlier this year, a series of fires gutted a number of buildings within a month. The Brian Bell News Centre and a Pelgens in Lae’s Market area.

The fire again draws attention to an on-going problem for the industrial hub; the Lae Fire Services slow response and struggle to contain fires. It’s also understood that the Lae Fire continues to face capacity problems.
