Alotau District Member’s Cup Tournament Ends

The township of Alotau in Milne Bay came alive over the weekend as it held its finals for the 2014 Alotau District Member’s Cup Tournament.

Alotau’s seven local level governments contested in volleyball, netball and soccer.
 
In its third year, it was a sporting affair amongst the seven districts of Alotau, who fielded both men’s and women’s teams in soccer and volleyball, with the exception of netball. All codes saw Alotau MP and National Planning Minister Charles Abel officiating with the kickoff.
 
In the soccer major finals, Alotau Urban faced Huhu in a class of football throughout the first half with no goals scored, however a penalty in front of the goal mouth saw Alotau find the nets minutes into the second half.
 
Huhu fought back but could not stop the Urban boys has they scored their second goals to hold Huhu beating them 2 goals to nil.
 
In the women’s division Weraura beat Urban Women, 1 nil. In other results, Mara overcame Suau 3-2 in a penalty shootout; while Daga men held off Kop, 2 to 1 till fulltime, in the minor cup playoffs.
