After Shocks Hit Northern Province

Northern Province has experienced few damages after the 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck 120 kilometres northwest of Popondetta last Friday.

At Killerton, located between Oro Bay and Gona, few houses made of bush material collapsed and water wells in the area also dried up.

Locals noticed the Bango River becoming muddy after the earthquake, possibly caused by landslides further upstream.

Meanwhile Vulcanological Observatory Geohazards Management Division reported that the dormant Mt Lamington had white clouds covering the summit.

Meanwhile there were two notable aftershocks, one occurred on 17th July at 7:18 pm at 4.1 magnitude and the second with a magnitude of 4.8  on 18th July at 3:35am.

Both aftershocks were reported in the same area.
