The countdown to the 15th Pacific Games in PNG has begun.
This morning, host Governor Powes Parkop and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko officially launched the countdown at the Jack Pidik Park in Port Moresby.
The Games will coincide with the 40th Independence celebration of the country.
Today marks exactly 365 days before PNG plays host to the 15th Pacific Games in Port Moresby from July 4th to the 18th, 2015.
The event is one of the major events PNG will showcase to its neighboring countries and the world.
Official mascot of the games Tura the Kokomo and Piggy from BSP, were also present at the occasion.
NCD Governor Powes Parkop said the national government has pumped over K1.7 billion to host the Games through infrastructure development and rehabilitation.
Governor Parkop called on all city residents to be at their best in making the Games a memorable one for all taking part.
Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko reminded the people of the importance of hosting the Games and giving support to PNG athletes.
A total of 22 countries will take part in 28 sporting codes in a space of 2 weeks.
Governor Parkop and Minister Tkatchenko then launched the countdown, witnessed by the public.
Part of the launching will end tonight with fireworks at the Yatch Club.
