Local Designers Secure Spot In Fashion Industry

Papua New Guinean fashion designer Anna Amos can secure a designing spot in the international fashion industry.

She displayed the highest number of outfits in the categories of evening; casual, corporate, contemporary and bikini wear during the 2014 Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival Fashion show held at the University of Papua New Guinea.

Anna is inspired by nature and her costumes depict traditional designs like the famous Milne Bay clay pots and Northern tapa design.

Fijian outfits were portrayed by Fijian Tribal Designs. They were put together by David Solvalu with the assistance of his sister.

Anna said although the fashion industry in PNG is in its' early stages, more emphasis must be given to local creative artists to expose raw talent.

The 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture has created an avenue for creative artists to showcase their raw talent.

The two nights of fashion at UPNG was attended by close to a thousand people.
