Attorney General and Minister for Justice Kerenga Kua expressed disappointment over the non-payment of allowances for ward councilors.
In a statement released today, the Attorney General questioned why the public service machinery in the districts and provinces are not taking heed of this government policy.
Mr. Kua said 6 months of the financial year have gone by and this group is yet to be placed on government payroll.
Despite the fact that the National Government has allocated 112 million kina in the 2014 budget toward councilor wages, they are yet to be paid.
Minister Kua urged all district and provincial administrators, plus members of parliament, to assist in providing all relevant data in their respective provinces to fast track this process.
He said paying wages for ward councilors is a demonstration of the O’Neill-led government’s seriousness in ensuring that development projects are delivered.
The Attorney General was instrumental in ensuring that all village court officials and ward councilors throughout the country were put on government payroll.
