The state will soon partner with the New Zealand government through its Public Enterprise and Trade and Foreign Affairs departments to begin work on developing Geo-thermal energy in the nation.
This was announced by Public Enterprise and State Investment minister Ben Micah in Port Moresby today.
The minister was part of a PNG delegation to New Zealand to follow up on the recent visit by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill
The minister said PNG has a lot to learn from New Zealand from developing geo-thermal energy to compensating land owners for the use of their land in developing major state infrastructures.
His trip to New Zealand prompted him to develop a proper blueprint for the nation to guide the development of the geo-thermal energy in the nation.
Currently PNG does not have a proper blueprint in place and the minister is confident to present a framework to cabinet once one is created.
When asked on how soon the framework will be ready, the minister said geo-thermal is a complex issue and promised to complete the framework while being the minister responsible.
This can be seen as another alternative the minister is taking to minimize the continuous power outrages experienced in almost all provinces.
