Don Bosco Technical Institute Launches Futsal Season

The Don Bosco Technical Institute is having a futsal season which started last week.

The school, in association with Port Moresby Soccer Association, Papua New Guinea Football Association and the Oceania Football Confederation, is hosting the games till the 19th of July to create awareness on the school and the Pacific games which will be held next year.

The games began last week with trial matches played by teams from within NCD.

Over ten teams have already registered to participate in the games which are being played indoors at the DBTI Gymnasium and the school’s main basketball court.

The teams of both the under 19 and the mixed divisions officially started off the games today which will continue through to next month.

Father Albert Swear, president of DBTI’s soccer team said the games are a way for people to know more about the school as well as make awareness on the 2015 Pacific Games.

Most of the teams participating are school teams from NCD with two others from the Central province.

One participant  Leslie Brown also an Instructor at DBTI, said although the game was the first of its kind to be held at the school many teams turned up for the games.

Futsal is a game similar to soccer played indoors or on a hard court surface with five players. There’s no handball or no offside which allows for a faster, entertaining game with goals galore.

The organizers are looking at more teams participating in the mix teams and the under 19 division however the grand final will be held next month.
