“KULUNGA’S FATE” – Mickey Kavera
Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga’s fate will be known Friday next week. Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika told the court this morning he will deliberate on the submissions before handing down his decision.
His lawyers asked the court for leniency considering his a first time offender and have reputable service to the police force. But Sam Bona lawyer representing Geoffrey Vaki told the court that contempt is contempt and the court must uphold the law to grant a maximum penalty.
Commissioner Kulunga is on bail until Friday next week.
“CONSTRUCTION BEGINS” – Scott Waide
Works Minister Francis Awesa today announced the start of construction on the 4 lane highway from Lae to Nadzab. The 500 million kina project is being built by China Railway. In the same breath, Mr. Awesa issued a strong warning to the Chinese company to buy its food and construction labor from Papua New Guinea. The road is of high importance to Lae’s growing economy.
“PNG GAMES VENUES” – Sylvester Gawi
Lae’s major sporting venue, the Sir Ignatius Kilage indoor and outdoor stadium, is currently undergoing major renovations in preparation for the PNG Games. Other sporting venues will also get major facelifts as work on games infrastructure begins over the coming weeks.
