Sir Mekere Slams AG’s Statement

Chairman of PNG Sustainable Development Program, Sir Mekere Morauta, has slammed the media statement released by the Attorney General yesterday.

In a press statement sent to EMTV, Sir Mekere said the content of the media release, titled “Government Stops PNGSDPL Asset Sale” is inaccurate, and defamatory.

He said pending determination of the case, it is highly inappropriate for the Attorney-General, to comment on matters that are before the Singapore High Court.

He added that, if the State was truly interested in maintaining the status quo, it would not have issued a media release that can only serve, to aggravate its dispute with PNGSDP. “Such comments will also unfairly prejudice the pending proceedings before the Singapore High Court” added Sir Mekere.

PNGSDP will be resisting the State's application vigorously in the Singapore High Courts.

In the meantime, PNGSDP is pushing ahead with its legal actions against the State in the Singapore High Court, and before the International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes, in Washington, DC.
