Unitech Maintained Standoff

Unitech students have maintained their standoff on campus, saying they won’t back down until their petition is heard by the national government.

As off today, the protesting students have stood fast, refusing to budge on the boycott.

It’s been nearly three weeks now since the initial boycott of classes began at the University of Technology.

The administration office remained closed after student’s forced its closure on Tuesday.

Yesterday, the student leaders announced that they will maintain their stand until they get a positive response from the government.

“NO Schram, No School”, the student leaders said.

In a statement released this afternoon from the office of the SRC, they have again called for government’s understanding, to allow Dr. Albert Schram back into the country.

Part of the statement reads, “Dr Shram is neither a criminal nor a fugitive, and that the decision by the university’s council has reinstated him as the vice chancellor.

However, Dr. Shram hasn’t been allowed back into the country because of visa restrictions.

Following the boycott and the force shut down of the administration office, the students have been engaged in doing awareness, telling public in Lae about what is happening at Unitech.

Meanwhile, students’ leaders have dismissed rumours of police involvement, stating that the protest was peaceful and that they will maintain their boycott peacefully until Dr. Albert Schram returns.
