Agro Industry: 4500 Day-Old Chicks Arrive

Food Security in the Hela Province and the Highlands Region will be boosted with the arrival of the first batch of 4, 500 day old chicks.

 

The chicks were brought in from New Zealand, and flown to Koroba Station in the Hela Province over the weekend.

Innovative Agro Industry Limited is the company in charge of the integrated farm in Koroba Station that will breed the chicks.

 

The people of Koroba turned out to witness the arrival of the very important cargo.

 

It will have a significant impact in the lives of the community in the Hela Province and the Highlands Region.

 

After four months, the chickens will begin to lay eggs for local and regional consumption.

 

The company aims to reach its target of having 13,000 layers, producing 10,000 eggs per day.

 

The chickens are part of an integrated farm facility. It also includes a feed mill, chicken growing facility, nursery and 10 fully-equipped greenhouses.

 

The farm aims to produce 38 tons of greenhouse vegetables, and over 200 tons of open field fruits and vegetables annually for regional consumption.

 

The project started in 28 February last year, costing K20 million. It is part of the Hela Provincial Governments plan, to enhance the value of agriculture production in the province.

 

The company Innovative Agro Industry is expected to provide services designed to support local farmers and increase their production and productivity.
