Goroka Bowling Club is known for producing championships in lawn bowls and it has represented PNG fairly in all sanctioned tournaments both nationally and internationally.
The Club hosted the Men’s National Fours over the weekend with interesting turnouts from keen and elite bowlers.
A total of 19 teams with 72 players took to the lawn under perfect Goroka weather over the weekend.
The Goroka Bowling Club hosted a two-day National Fours competition, which saw elite and keen bowlers descending on Goroka for the battle.
The outdoor fours in ‘Rinks’ games were highly competitive but as friendly as a social occasion.
The Club is known for producing PNG reps and creating pathways for keen bowlers expressing interest in the sport.
The Goroka Bowling Club sent a team to the 2011 South Pacific Bowling Carnival and saw them return with gold medals.
This year, the Club was unable to send a team to the 58th Bowling Carnival in Fiji due to funding issues, but are glad the national team was attending the event as a lead up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The task, now under the leadership of Wilson Unua, is to have a strong side representing Goroka at the 6th PNG Games in November in Lae.
His Club will be working on the accuracy of ‘delivery’, ‘weight’ to meet ‘dead draw’ before a final team is announced.
