Over fifty amateur boxers from the two border provinces have competed in the Friendly Boxing Game in Vanimo.
The competition, held at the Vanimo Grand Stand started yesterday with fifteen boxers from Papua province of Jayapura, Indonesia and thirty four boxers from West Sepik.
The Friendship Boxing Game is the first to be staged in Vanimo. It is another way the two border provinces have chosen to renew their friendly ties.
The fight began yesterday with eight matches. All three matches fought in the female division were won by the Papuan visitors.
Match one saw Sofia Mofu of Papua defeat West Sepik’s Tom Rose.
Jayapura’s Nobetha Tajum beat Vanimo’s Judith Wkumu and Sussy Eppa proved too strong for PNG’s Nolyn Stanley.
In the men’s division, eight matches were fought. For the forty nine kilogram class, PNG’s Epsy Wai collected more points and defeated Indonesian boxer Emmanuel Kaway.
The grand final will be played this evening between Indo boxer Sam Ferold Puadi and PNG’s Silash Jonas.
The Game was official open by the Indonesian Consul in Vanimo Jahar Gultom and Vanimo Town Mayor Jerry Kina.
It is also a preparation for team Sandaun’s boxing squad in the sixth PNG Games.
