Four Day Softball Clinic Held

When it comes to softball, it’s more than just a game. It is known as a family sport with undisputed mass participation from all keen softball players, and the new converts who would like to raise a bat for bunt or strikes in the diamonds.

It is one of Papua New Guinea’s gold medal sports.

The Korobosea International School was lucky this week to have the Softball Federation carry out a basic training clinic for youngsters who would like to take up the sport.

It was obviously a fun day for this 10 to 14 year-olds attending the softball clinic at the Korobosea International School, under the partnership with PNG Softball Federation.

A four-day clinic that falls in line with School holiday for all IEA schools,  accommodating  these keen participants to physically come in contact with bat and ball, including rules and everything else of the game itself.

The clinic is delivered under the guidance of Sue Tarasomo, the National Team Manager and the 2015 Pacific Games Train on Squad members, including the Bais brothers, Robert and Constantine and Hennie Warpin, who is also the current Port Moresby Women’s softball squad captain, who retained the national title in Kokopo in April this year.

Mrs. Tarasomo is being grilled by these budding soft ballers, apparently the interest shown on batting, base running and pitching.

Mrs. Tarasomo says the clinic is part of the Junior Development program and will roll out to the other schools.

She urged all children who are doing nothing, to call in to participate in this educational sporting program.

She says it’s not only for New Guinea island region, and would like the children from others regions, and with no softball background.

The clinic will end on Thursday.
