With the 2015 Pacific Games 386 days away from commencement, work on venues has increased accordingly.
Minister for Sports and National Events Justin Tkatchenko, alongside the Pacific Games authorities, officiated the ground breaking ceremony of the Rita Flynn netball courts today.
With the games fast approaching and venues still a concern for the public, Minister for Sports and National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, was pleased to officiate the Rita Flynn ceremony earlier today.
Mr. Tkatchenko reiterated that the delay in the process was beyond both his and the Games’ authorities control, but reassured the Netball fraternity that they will be working tirelessly to complete the netball complex in time for 2015.
The K54 million state-of-the-art facility will include an indoor theatre with 3 internationally certified courts. Minister Tkatchenko believes this massive infrastructure development will take Netball to greater heights.
The complex will be able to cater for 3000 people.
With upgraded facilities, Papua New Guinea will now be able to host staged events, such as the Pacific Netball Series and other sanctioned tournaments.
Chairman of the Pacific Games, Kostas Constantinou, assisted Mr. Tkatchenko while taking the honor of officially breaking the ground and announcing the commencement of construction.
While the arena was full of excitement, the Port Moresby Netball Association fraternity remains uncertain of where the semi-finals will be held, now that Rita Flynn is under construction.
