Telefomin District has 35 Aid posts, where half have been closed down, due to shortage of manpower.
This was revealed by the Member for Telefomin, Solan Mirisim, when announcing the re-opening of the District’s CHW Training School.
The Community Health Worker Training School will be revived to cater for the demand in health needs in the District.
Telefomin District is considered one of the least developed Districts in the country, but the people are very competitive when it comes to sustaining themselves. This was one of the highs of the people, echoed by the Member responsible, Solan Mirisim.
He told development partners, AusAID, and the Baptist Union that although geographically challenged District, his people were willing to change it for the better. One area is the revival of the Community Health Worker Training School.
The District through its DSIP Health Component, has allocated K500, 000 for the maintenance of the old CHW Training School. This was revealed to the development partners including representatives from AusAID, who were there to see for themselves, how and where they can assist.
Another development is the K9.8 million refurbishment of the Telefomin District Hospital. By mid-May, materials will be airlifted into Lae for work to begin. However, the hold-up at the moment is the release of the K500, 000 DSIP fund.
