Unitech Petition

Students at the University of Technology in Lae have called to the Prime Minister to live up to his word, implement the recommendations of the Sevua investigation and allow Dr. Albert Schram to return as Vice Chancellor.

The Student representative Council will be presenting a petition, addressed to the Prime Minister, giving him 48 hours to respond.

This follows a public forum last week.

Students at the University of Technology in Lae began the school year with an issue unresolved. The demand for Dr. Albert Schram’s return as Vice Chancellors hasn’t been in action by the Government.

Today Student Representatives again called on the PM to live up to the word that he spoke in a visit last year.

After the prime minister’s visit last year, investigations began in the allegations levelled against Dr. Schram.

They included allegations that he had faked his qualifications.

Earlier he was refused entry on grounds that he didn’t have valid visa.

According to the investigation report, Dr. Schram had been cleared of allegations against him, even after the Interim Councils called for his return.

There has been very little movement in government to allow his return.

Last week, the students had another public forum seeking answers and the possible way forward.

By the end of this week, they will have presented their petition to prime minister, calling for Dr. Schram’s return.
