The SP PNG Hunters will face off last year’s minor premiers, Northern Pride, in a fascinating top-of-the-table Intrust Super Cup clash.
Both teams have started the season with three straight wins, setting the scene for an epic contest at Kalabond Oval, Kokopo.
The SP PNG Hunters have moved up a notch on the Intrust Super Cup points table, following their decisive 46-14 win over the Central Queensland Capras on Saturday.
The Capras were on the receiving end of fast-improving Hunters, who enjoyed the perfect weather conditions to pile on 9 tries to the visitors’ three.
Six players missed out, including Adam Korave with his hamstring injury, who will be hoping to come good in this weekend’s match against the Northern Pride, before continuing their away matches in round five and six.
Both teams are locked on six points apiece, and have amassed 94 points, each in three games played so far.
Hunters’ glory minute against the Northern Pride outfit in the trial match, will put on more effect in this season’s proper match. Coach Michael Marum stays true to his word, hoping for another home ground victory.
The Queensland Rugby League provides all the match officials, referees and touch judges.
The first two visitors played the Hunters, have flown direct to Tokua Airport, on a charter flight from Cairns, but now all remaining teams will fly via direct Air Niugini Commercial routes to Kokopo.
In the other draws, Mackay Cutters will take on Manly Seagulls, Burleigh Bears go up against Ipswich Jets, Redcliffe Dolphins host East Tigers, Magpies will play Tweed Heads Seagulls and Norths Devils will be ready to scare Sunshine Coast Falcons at Bishop Park, while CQ Capras are on bye.
