The water supply project in Port Moresby’s Burns Peak settlement was commissioned today.
Communities there will now enjoy constant supply of clean fresh water, after years of struggling, to liaise with relevant stakeholders.Over 7 thousand people will benefit from this much needed service, that has been neglected over the past 25 years.
Chairman of Burns Peak Water Committee Ben Badire, was joyous to see the taps being open, but expressed disappointment over nonpayment of water bills. Mr Badire called on all residents to be committed in paying their fee of K10 per month, so water is sustainable. Water must not be taken for granted, he added.
Eda Ranu’s Chief Executive Officer Henry Mokono, called on the residents, to take ownership of the project, by making it sustainable. Mr Mokono said, connecting and disconnecting water is easy. People should be reminded that paying bills is vital to sustain the project.
The project was funded by Moresby North West Member Michael Malabag, NCD Governor Powes Parkop, and Eda Ranu.
