A quick response by Port Moresby Police has prevented a young man from being beaten up by angry pedestrians at the Hohola Freeway in Port Moresby today.

The young man, believed to be in his twenties, was driving under the influence of alcohol, when he lost control of his vehicle, ran off his lane and onto the lane of oncoming vehicles.

He was fortunate for a small tree that saved him from driving into the nearby drain which could have cost him serious injuries.

The policeman, who responded to the incident, told EM TV News that the young man will be charged for drink driving.

The young man is from Central province, and resides at Hohola. Witnesses say, another guy was with him in the vehicle but fled as soon as the vehicle came to a stop.

Meanwhile in another incident, a semi-trailer had capsized at the Freeway in Waigani. No serious injuries were sustained by the driver.
