New SHP Provincial Administrator

By Ruth Rungula – EM TV, Port Moresby

Southern Highlands Province (SHP) has become the first Highlands province to comply with the government’s initiative to employ provincial administrators from outside of the province.

Joe Kaiyo, a long-time public servant with the National Housing Corporation, was appointed by NEC as the new Southern Highlands Administrator. He was sworn in at the provincial assembly last week.

He replaces former Provincial Administrator, Ungia Kembo who voluntarily resigned for health reasons.

Ungia Kembo implemented various projects, including the successful transfer of public servants from SHP to the new Hela Province.

He thanked NEC, the governor and the provincial administration for their support during his time in office and welcomed the new Provincial Administrator, Joe Kaiyo to the province.

Joe Kaiyo, although new to the province, brings with him a wealth of experience in the public service and said he is ready to deliver on government policies.

Southern Highlands Governor William Powi welcomed Mr Kaiyo to the province and challenged him to display strong leadership to make a difference in the province.

He also outlined the provincial government’s plans once the new administrator takes office, one of which is to install a clock-in/clock-out system for public servants.

Governor Powi said the appointment of Kaiyo came through a recommendation from the Provincial Executive Council after the resignation of Kembo.
