by Theckla Gunga – EM TV, Port Moresby

NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa is now giving families of the two suspects involved in the incident until eight o’clock tomorrow morning to hand them over to police.

In a phone conversation with EM TV, the concerned Superintendent said he will be visiting the area to warm the families of the suspects.

He described the manner in which the police officer was attacked as unacceptable and uncalled for.

“I have already sent out strong warmings to families of the suspect to apprehend them and surrender them to police,” said Bawa.

In the meantime, the police officer is in critical condition at the Port Moresby General Hospital and nurses are currently monitoring his condition.

According to NCD Superintendent Operations Perou N’Dranou, the officer was slashed with a bush knife on his neck and cut in the leg.

The incident happened at eight o’clock last night.

EM TV News understands that police officers from Gordon’s Police Station and the McGregor Barracks will be present at Nine Mile Market throughout the night to closely monitor the situation.
