The police officer that chopped off three fingers of a youth in Madang is under suspension.
Acting Provincial Police Commander Ben Neneo revealed this in an interview with EM TV’s Fabian Hakalits.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning last Saturday and involved an off-duty policeman from Jomba Police Station.
Mr Neneo condemned police personnel intimidating human lives and said there is no room for those who break the law.
Investigations will continue.
Most crimes reported daily and weekly at Madang Police Station are alcohol-related and include motor traffic offences as well as accidents.
Due to an increase in alcohol-related crimes, police have increased the bail amount so that citizens refrain of such acts.
Meanwhile,investigations into recent robberies and other major crimes are continuing.
The police, with the assistance of Port Moresby mobile units, conducted a raid and apprehended suspects from the recent yachtrobbery, along with two murder suspects on the run since January this year.
