High Cost of delivering services to rural districts was a grievance that was raised in parliament today.
Member for Nuku, Joseph Sungi, during grievance debate, raised the point that government should allocate more funds to districts in the remote parts. Mr. Sungi argued that remote districts have to meet extra costs to deliver the same projects, compared to urban districts.
The member said cost of delivering services varies in different districts, and wants the government to revisit the funding allocation made to districts. The member said K10 million allocation for remote districts is not sufficient.
He called on the government to take into account all costs associated with bringing services to districts, like geographical factors, and transport and freight costs.
Mr. Sungi raised this concern because most projects for remote districts were so often left incomplete because of the fact that some contractors often did variations to contract cost due to high cost of transportation and shipment.
