Teachers in Lae City who have not been paid have called on the provincial and national authorities to ensure the systems work.
While no official explanation has been given for the mishap, assurances were given today that their salary woes will be fixed by the next payday two weeks from now.
Yesterday, teachers at Lae Secondary school, threatened strike action after finding out that they had not been paid. Yesterday, Morobe’s education authorities managed to diffuse a situation that could have blown out of proportion.
But still no official explanation has been given as to why this administrative mishap has left teachers unpaid this fortnight. Yesterday, Lae Secondary School raised the alarm after 50 of its 53 teachers found that their salaries had not been paid.
The Busu Secondary School principal has also written to the Chairman of the Provincial Education board, asking why two of their teachers had not been paid.
Malahang technical high school, 32 teachers have been affected. Many have refused to speak on camera after assurance by the education division.
It’s understood the decision to urgently resolve the matter after immediate intervention by the Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza, and the education Minister. Meanwhile, teachers at Lae Secondary have remained at work today after threats yesterday to stop work.
