Nurses Will Celebrate World Nurses Day

Nurses in the country will be celebrating World Nurses Day next week, with the aim to celebrate the work nurses do.

Taking the lead in organizing this event the Papua New Guinea Nurses Association President Sister, Emie Kaptigau, said the day was usually celebrated indoors and in a hospital setting, however this year, the day will be celebrated outside with the public so people can also take part in the celebrations.

The Papua New Guinea Nursing Association will be celebrating World Nurses Day on the 12th of this month at the Jack Pidik Park.

Sr. Emie Kaptigau said the aim of the celebration is to expose what nurses do, and for the people to know the specialist areas that nurses work in. Specialist stalls will be set up, which includes midwifery, child health, peri operative and mental health.

NCD Health services will also put up a stall which will display curative and public health services as well as provide free health check-ups. An annual event normally celebrated indoors, however, the nurses are now taking this event to the public to make awareness on health issues, and most importantly, the important work they do.

Nurses in Rabaul, Kundiawa, Madang and Lae, will also be celebrating the event in their respective provinces.
