Villagers Urged To Give Government Land

by Theckla Gunga – EM TV, Port Moresby

The people of Munji, Marambanja, Siniegu, and Numbo in Yangoru Saussia District in East Sepik were encouraged by local MP Richard Maru to give a piece of their land to the National Government, in order to see more government services reaching the people.

The allocation of customary land to the state is aimed at allowing government services like health and education to flow smoothly without being disturbed over land owner issues.

Maru told the village elders to identify an area where government will buy from land owners.

“If you want reliable government services into your area, it is important to partner with the government,” Maru said. He said the government cannot do everything on its own and it needs cooperation from the local community.

The identified area must be in a central location so the services once built will be accessible by villagers from East and West Yangoru and Saussia including the neighbouring electorates.

He made this announcement during his recent visit to the district.
