The Jiwaka Provincial Government held a significant conference to establish and discuss development issues and find the best solutions to tackle its service delivery woes.
Since breaking away from the Western Highlands, the newly established province of Jiwaka, is still struggling to provide basic services to its people.
UNDP rep, Roy Trivedy said the conference has grasped the attention of the UN family and paves the way for the design of a model mechanism in reaching people in rural places where service matters. “The UN family is ready and happy to work with the Jiwaka Provincial Government to pave way for vital services”, Trivedy added.
Jiwaka Governor, Dr William Tongamp believes that people in remote Jiwaka and urban areas can see the flow of services, if resources are utilised and coordinated through proper channeling of infrastructure – prioritising a relevant budget through a community led approach.
Present at the conference were representatives from development partners around the globe, including the UNDP, EU, Department of National Planning and Monitoring, women representatives and officers from the Jiwaka Provincial Administration.
The conference was held at the Parliament’s State Function Room this morning.
