Biti challenges chartered accountants

Chartered Accountants have been challenged to be leaders and drivers in this time of economic boom.

A wide range of speakers at the two day annual conference spoke on the challenges and ways forward for the profession.

There were over a thousand chartered accountants gathered in Port Moresby for their annual CPA PNG conference.

The theme for the conference was “The next big wave. What is on the horizon?”, and was aimed to equip its participants with information to ride this wave of economic boom in the country.

“We want to see the CPA’s be the forefront and be the decision makers to drive the economic activities that are happening within the country,” said Mr Daniel Biti, Vice President for CPAPNG.

Mr Biti was happy to note the involvement of public servants into the PNG Institute of Chartered Accountants this year.

Biti acknowledged the efforts of the public sector, especially the department of finance, as CPA PNG has had an addition of 100 members from the public sector.

“Previously we had never had that opportunity or dialogue with the public sector,” he added.

The two day conference ended yesterday with a gala dinner for the participants.
