Prime Minister Peter OโNeill concluded his attendance at the China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development Forum, with his delegation signing several agreements with the government of China.
These agreements will provide financial arrangements in support of activities that include the Kokopo Town sewerage project, the Edevu hydropower plant project, the National Broadband Network project and the Affordable Housing Construction project.
Mr OโNeill said he has also advanced the prospect of direct flights between China and Papua New Guinea, which will create opportunities for a dramatic increase in Chinese tourists visiting Papua New Guinea, as well as create trade opportunities in premium seafood and agricultural produce trade.
โWe have signed a series of agreements to facilitate funding for projects that will help people through better sewage and sanitation, increase power generation and expand Internet access.”
Prime Minister O’Neill hasย also noted development on discussion to create direct air links with China, as well as continuing to lower barriers for trade.
โChina is a market that offers incredible [opportunities] for Papua New Guinea,โ OโNeill said. “China is looking at building strategic partnerships of mutual respect and common development with the Pacific community.”
