Women’s rugby 7s: PNG Palais need options

by Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

The PNG Palais have created a demand for more sanctioned women’s rugby competitions around the country.

This weekend, the PNGRFU will host an open trial for those interested in being part of the Palais success PNGRFU Development Manager, Sailosi Druma says:

“We are looking for anyone and everyone who is interested in playing rugby, and hopefully this weekend, we’ll find something special.”

The code has grown high demand and interest from women interested in playing the sport; this is indicated through mass participation programs such as Get Into Rugby and Pacific in Union.

The PNGRFU have now set a number of opportunities; under 16 schoolboy and schoolgirl rugby and under 19 schoolboy and schoolgirl rugby inter-school competitions will be open pathways into the under 19 PNG Pukpuks and the PNG Palais teams.

The Palais are in need of a wider player base, especially with the Pacific Games to be held in Port Moresby next year and the Olympic Sevens qualifier towards the end of next year.
