PEL TEAM VISITS HAUS KRAI OF LATE MUSIC ICON ROBERT OEKA

The late PNG music icon Robert Oeka has been described as one of the most respected and influential figures in Papua New Guinea’s music history, alongside fellow legend Basil Greg.
Managing Director of Bush Dog Construction Ltd and leader of Team PEL, Pora Eke Lama, led a special visit to the haus krai yesterday evening to pay tribute to one of Papua New Guinea’s greatest musical legends.
Mr Lama said the late Oeka’s songs transcended provinces and generations, becoming anthems of identity, unity and national pride.
He said Oeka was more than just a musician; he was a cultural ambassador whose legacy lives on in songs sung across villages, towns and cities. His contributions also helped lay the foundation for PNG’s contemporary music industry.
The managing director said it was a great privilege for the delegation to be warmly welcomed by living legend Basil Greg himself, alongside Sam Oeka and Gulf Province leaders. The gathering symbolised a meeting of legends, family and leadership.
For Team PEL, the visit was more than a condolence call. It reaffirmed respect for those who built PNG’s cultural heritage and recognised that true leadership honours its artists, elders and trailblazers.
The gathering also strengthened the enduring bond between Route 600 and Route 700, demonstrating that connections go beyond music and politics. They are built on mutual respect, shared history and lasting relationships between communities.
As Team PEL joined the family in mourning, the team also joined the nation in celebrating a life well lived through music.
Team PEL, from Southern Highlands Province and also known as Last Papua, had the honour of joining extended family members and relatives in mourning and celebrating the life of a man whose music shaped generations.
Legends never die; their legacy lives on through the people they inspire.
