Kaubwaga TVET School on Misima Island in Milnebay Province, has received K70,000 to address immediate needs within the institution.
The presentation by was done by the member for Samarai-Murua, Isi Henry Leonard, during the Schools 51st Independence Anniversary celebrations.
While delivering the cheque, Leonard vowed to bring back the best technical training days to Misima
Leonard said Misima used to produce some of the best carpenters, mechanics, marine engineers and boat builders in the pre-independence era when Misima hosted a technical college that everyone came to for technical training.
“We were some of the best carpenters, mechanics, marine engineers, boat builders. Misima used to host technical college in the pre-independence era. Everyone came here for technical training. So we are following the footsteps of our fathers in technical training for our children,” he said.
“I did bring some Chinese engineers here and they planned out everything and now have shaped it into an MOA. In that MOA, Misima Resource Limited must honor the legacy issue to build Kaubwaga TVET School,” Leornard said.
Leonard said he is giving K70,000 to address immediate needs while the bigger plan is being finalized.
“Now I give K70,000. I know there are more challenges but for now we focus on immediate needs first. And since we are in the mining area, our waters are unsafe and because of alluvial mining, water is becoming murky and polluted due to alluvial mining upstream. And so we need to have bore water in this area including TVET, so I will be working with the LLG to drill bore water under the disaster program,” he said.
“My DDA’s Priority is schools and hospitals,” Leonard added.
