Misima District Hospital in Milnebay Province has received basic medicines and medical equipment to boost its effort in delivering basic healthcare to the people.
The medicine supplies and equipment’s were delivered by the Member for Samarai-Murua, Isi Henry Leonard to the district Hospital on the 16th of September at Bwagoia Station, Misima Island.
The local member revealed that Milne Bay Provincial Health Authority is not delivering medicines, with even Alotau General Hospital running out of medicines.
“We understand that the Milne Bay Provincial Health Authority is not delivering medicines. In Alotau General Hospital, there are no medicines. And if it is in Alotau that there are no medicines, then no Districts will get medicines. So my DDA steps in to deliver basic medicine,” Leonard said.
“We are also here to get the medicines that you need under our Disaster Program under the El Nino which is currently on. I thank you for your trying times when there is no medicine for people coming from outer islands to this hospital. What we also delivered is an oxygen concentrator which costs K20,000. And if it works, we will get some more,” he said.
In response, Misima District l Hospital Deputy District Health Administrator, Serah Joseph , acknowledged the local member’s timely support.
“It is difficult to get medicine through the normal Provincial Health Procurement process and for you to assist is very much appreciated. Currently we have two staff manning the hospital but are manning it well,” Joesph said.
Member for Samarai- Murua noted that health is a top priority of Samarai- Murua DDA and he will continue to step in where the Provincial Health system fails to ensure the people have access to basic healthcare.
