Agency targets 900 skilled volunteers nationwide, with strong interest from the Highlands Region Goroka Eastern Highlands Province
The National Volunteer Service (NVS) has completed its Highlands Region recruitment drive, ending a month-long courtesy tour in Goroka.
Over the past four weeks, the NVS team travelled through all seven Highlands provinces starting in Enga and continuing through Southern Highlands, Hela, Western Highlands, Jiwaka, Simbu, and Eastern Highlands. During the visits, the team met with Provincial Administrations and Provincial Health Authorities (PHAs) to build support for the National Executive Council’s call-out for 900 skilled volunteers nationwide. “We came here to meet a target,” said NVS Highlands Region Coordinator Hanson Pato.
“And we’ve seen that the Highlands Region has truly shown us that the spirit of service is alive and unstoppable. We look forward to properly capturing our skilled volunteers in the Highlands region through partnerships. ” The drive concluded with courtesy meetings at the Eastern Highlands Provincial Administration and the Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority. NVS said it is now working toward signing Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) that will formalize volunteer recruitment in the province. Pato expressed confidence that a significant number of volunteers will come from the Highlands alone, saying the agency is ready to move forward with partnerships across all seven provinces.
As part of the outreach, a volunteer call-out was also held at Peace Park in Goroka. About 50 people signed expressions of interest forms. Those applicants will now go through a vetting process before formal recruitment.
