Finance and Treasury functions in Kairuku District, Central Province, have been strengthened following the opening of a Treasury office in Bereina last week.
The refurbished office is expected to improve access to Treasury services in the district while ensuring financial operations are guided by government finance and Treasury regulations.
Provincial Finance Manager Walis Imbal, in his official remarks, said the reopening of the office marks a new beginning for Kairuku District.
He acknowledged the support of Central Province Governor Rufina Peter and Acting Provincial Administrator Magino Raga for their continued efforts in strengthening finance and Treasury systems across the province’s five districts.
Mr Imbal highlighted the importance of finance and Treasury functions under the Public Finance Management Act, which provides the framework for financial responsibilities, accountability, and effective management of government resources.
He said the reopening of the office demonstrates the commitment and support of the provincial administration and Kairuku District through its Member of Parliament, Peter Isoaimo.
First Assistant Secretary for Finance, Chris Waea, who oversees the Provincial Finance Management Division, said strengthening finance and Treasury functions is part of a nationwide government initiative aimed at building partnerships, trust, and better coordination across all levels of government.
Bereina Ward Member Allan Arua welcomed the return of Treasury services, describing it as a significant improvement that will strengthen service delivery in the district.
