PNGDF MEMBERS COMPLETE COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING

Non-commissioned officers from across the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) successfully completed a communications course last month, helping improve their ability to communicate clearly and securely during operations.

The six-week course was held at the Signal Wing, Goldie River Training Depot, in May 2026. It was run by PNGDF instructors, with support from the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

During the course, participants learned important communication skills, including use of military radios, how to set up antennas, keeping information secure, operation of high-frequency radios, and how to send and receive messages over military networks. The training included both classroom learning and field exercises, where students honed their new skills in real-life scenarios.

The course enables students to give clear instructions, allows teams to work together effectively, and will support future PNGDF operations.

PNGDF Senior Instructor Lieutenant Faith Koka said the course had given participants the skills they need in the field.

“Effective communication is the backbone of any military operation,” Lieutenant Koka said

“Throughout this course, our students have developed the technical knowledge, discipline, and confidence required to operate secure communication systems in demanding environments.

“They have worked hard to master both the theory and practical aspects of radio communications, and I am proud of the professionalism they demonstrated throughout the training,” she said.

This course highlights the strong, ongoing partnership between PNG and Australia, working together to support training and improve capability for both nations.
