PNG National Weather Service gave an update today that from last night the system was outside of PNG waters and the Milne Bay Area.

Yesterday the system picked up speed overnight moving west. Assistant Director of PNG National Weather Service, Benjamin Malai said the threat remains for parts of the country.

“At 10 this morning the system was sitting just outside of PNG waters. However, the winds, rain and storm surges that come with it is impacting our part of the region,” Malai said.

From 10am today, the system will remain in category four until 10am tomorrow when it will down grade to a category three system.

“The winds will reduce, however, will be still very strong until it passes through East of Milne Bay and West of Misima Island.”

He said Papua New Guinea will be impacted with heavy rains, hurricane force winds and storm surges.
