FIJIAN TEAMS IN TOWN FOR SPORTS TOK RUGBY 7S
Having Celebrated the victory in one of PNG’s top rugby seven’s tournaments for over a year, the Fijian Devo Babas are back in Port Moresby to defend the title.
Arriving yesterday in Port Moresby Babas coach Bill Ratute said they are back to retain the cup.
“It was as blessing for us coming over to PNG and participate, won the title, took it to Fiji and celebrated for the whole year and we have to return it back to Papua New Guinea. We want to retain it back for one more year that is why we are here.” Ratute said.
Coming off hot legged from defending their Fiji Bitter Marist 7s title against Green Machine, the visitors are determined to give a good run to the Sport Tok title.
“It is a boost to us winning the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s back at home. It’s been the mother of 7s in Fiji that we managed to win and it is a big boost for us,” Ratute expressed.
He said there are couple of new faces in the squad but the aim is to win.
Moreover, there is also a female team from Fiji, Tagimaulia Banadi who are also in town to have a run in the competition.
Landed for the first time as a team in Jackson’s International Airport, team coach Fiona Theresa said they are here to compete.
“We said we are going to come to Papua New Guinea and try to take the title,” Theresa said.
She said the team has a wealth of experience and are also excited to face off against the local sides over the weekend.
