RURAL HEALTH WORKER ACHIEVES UNIVERSITY DREAM

The journey to higher education is often challenging for many people in rural Papua New Guinea, but for Mosoben Aiauman, perseverance and faith helped turn a long-held dream into reality.

Mosoben Aiauman’s journey began after completing Grade 10. Like many young people in rural communities, opportunities for further education were limited. After spending three years at home, he refused to give up on his dream and instead looked for another pathway that would allow him to serve his community.

Determined to work in the health sector, Mosoben applied to the Gaubin Community Health Worker School to begin his career in healthcare.

In 2000, he received his first posting at Kambuku in East Sepik Province, marking the start of a lifelong commitment to improving health services in remote communities.

From 2001 to 2005, Mosoben served at Saidor Health Centre in Madang Province, providing essential healthcare services to rural populations. He later continued his service at Bunabun Health Centre from 2006 to 2011, where he gained valuable experience while supporting patients and community health programs.

His passion for improving healthcare inspired him to further his education. In 2012, Mosoben enrolled at the Lutheran School of Nursing, where he completed a Diploma in Nursing.

After graduating, he returned to Bunabun Health Centre and later rose to become the District Health Promotion Coordinator, playing a key role in promoting health awareness and strengthening health services in the district.

Mosoben later moved to Karkar Island to serve at Kavailo Health Centre as the Sumkar District Health Promotion Coordinator and Officer-in-Charge, while also acting as the Sumkar District Health Manager.

Despite his demanding responsibilities, Mosoben remained determined to continue his academic journey. His efforts paid off on Friday, March 6, 2026, when he graduated from Divine Word University in Madang with a Bachelor of Health Services Management.

Mosoben said the achievement represents years of dedication and commitment to improving health services.

“Graduating with a Bachelor of Health Services Management means a lot to me. It reflects many years of hard work and my commitment to serving my community,” he said.

He hopes his journey will inspire young people to value education and remain determined in pursuing their goals.

“My message to the younger generation is to never stop learning. Stay focused, be disciplined and believe in yourself. With determination, you can achieve great things.”

Mosoben Aiauman’s journey stands as a powerful reminder that success often comes through perseverance, faith, and a strong desire to serve others.
