BULOLO DDA SPONSORS 40 LOCAL STUDENTS FOR CHW TRAINING

By Bradley Mariori

Forty students from across Bulolo District in Morobe Province will undertake community health worker (CHW) training in Lae, fully sponsored by the Bulolo Development Authority (DDA), according to AOG CHW Training School Principal Jason Jambui.

Jambui explained that the students will be trained at the AOG CHW Training School in Lae under a preventive health program that focuses on taking illness to wellness. The program runs for two years.

He said the first 75 percent of the first year focuses on environmental health, teaching students how to live in the community and maintain a healthy environment to provide basic health services. The remaining five percent of the first year serves as an introduction to clinical practices. In the second year, students will study clinical modules in greater depth, covering basic patient care, health centre operations, and tropical diseases.

Jambui said the goal is to ensure students are familiar with their work environment as frontline health workers. This group of Grade 12 school leavers is the second batch sponsored by Bulolo DDA under its Corporate Sponsorship program.

He added that the partnership between Bulolo DDA and the college is an important step for improving basic health care service delivery in the district. The AOG CHW Training School started in 2023 with 36 pioneer graduates in 2025 and is fully registered, offering certificate programs.
