WARD COUNCILOR PRESENTS WARD DEVELOPMENT PLAN

By Bradley Mariori

Muyu Bino, Ward (5) Councillor for Amoa in Morobe Local Level Government, has become the first councillor in Huon Gulf District to officially present the Ward Development Plan, Ward Profile, and establish a functioning Ward Development Committee (WDC).

District Administrator Andrew Namuesh emphasized that all councillors across the 65 wards of Huon Gulf District are required to prepare and submit their Ward Development Plans, Ward Profiles, and establish fully operational Ward Development Committees.

He stated that these requirements must be fulfilled before wards can access funding from the Bottom-Up Planning (BUP) initiative.

The BUP initiative is led by Member for Huon Gulf and Minister for Community Development, Youth and Religion Jason Peter.

Under this initiative, each ward within Huon Gulf District is allocated K100,000 annually for ward-level development projects, while LLG Presidents receive K1,000,000 each to support local-level government priorities. This Bottom-Up Planning approach has been implemented since 2023 to strengthen grassroots development planning and accountability.

The Huon Gulf District Administration commends Muyu Bino for demonstrating leadership and compliance with the required planning processes, setting a strong example for all ward councillors across the district.

The presentation was formally received and witnessed by Huon Gulf District Administrator Andrew Namuesh, in the presence of Executive Officer for Morobe LLG Elliott Martias Borezi and Acting Community Development Officer Jethro Hiasi recently.
